The electromagnetic radiation frequencies (or wavelengths) absorbed or emitted by an atom of a specific element. According to Niels Bohr's atomic theory, radiation is absorbed or emitted at frequencies that match the energy difference between two energy levels of the atom. The frequencies (or wavelengths) absorbed by an atom of a specific element comprise its absorption spectrum, and the frequencies (or wavelengths) emitted by an atom of a specific element comprise its emission spectrum.
