An electric current, ie the movement of electric charges (electrons or ions, or both) that changes direction cyclically following a periodic change in the polarity of the electric power source (voltage), (current frequency).

Number of cycles per second is measured in units of Hertz. (HZ)

AC technology was developed by the Serbian physicist Nikola Tesla. AC is commonly used in applications where high power is required.

One of the physical measures which characterizes electromagnetic radiation. The "height" or amplitude of a wave describes the intensity of the fields (electric and magnetic) of radiation.קרא עוד >

A device that constitutes an interface between an electric circuit and space, and serves to transmit and receive electromagnetic waves. It is generally made of metal and is capable of converting an electric current into electromagnetic radiation and vice versa.קרא עוד >

The basic unit of any element, comprising a nucleus and a cloud of electrons surrounding it.  Electrons are negatively charged, and the nucleus is positively charged.  The nucleus is composed of neutrons (no electric charge) and protons (positively charged).  The electrons are attached to the nucleus by means of electromagnetic power.  The atoms composing matter are attached to each other by chemical bonds to form molecules.קרא עוד >

The mass of an atomic or subatomic particle or molecule. It is the unit that defines the weight of basic elements in the periodic table.קרא עוד >

A measure for indicating how much of the disease that occurs can be accounted for by a certain exposure.

 קרא עוד >

A systematic error leading to incorrect assessment of the actual effect of a certain factor on the outcome (e.g. on the risk of developing a disease).Such an error may be due to deficiencies in the design of the research protocol, in the recruitment of participants, in data gathering, in data analysis, etc.

A physiological, biochemical, or behavioral change in a living organism, in the tissue or the cell.קרא עוד >

Wireless communications technology (in the 2402-2480 MHz frequency range) enabling connection over short distances between personal end-user devices situated in the proximity of the user, e.g. between mobile phones and hands-free speakers. (Source: IARC-RF, monog,102.2013).קרא עוד >

A cluster of cells created by uncontrolled division of cells in the brain tissue (neurons, glia, epithelium, etc.).Primary brain tumors are named according to the type of cells that constitute them.In general, and in contrast to other tumors, brain tumors do not tend to metastasize to other organs.קרא עוד >

A global or oval body enclosed in a membrane, found in all cells.  The nucleus contains the genetic material (DNA) of the cell.קרא עוד >

A wireless portable telephone containing a transmitter and receiver that emit and receive radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic radiation.קרא עוד >

Technology that enables the use of mobile phones.  It is based on the geographic division of the communication area covered into cells, using a given number of frequencies (or channels), allowing a large number of subscribers to conduct conversations simultaneously.  A mobile phone (or cellular phone) is a bi-directional instrument that can transmit and receive simultaneously.קרא עוד >

A structure carrying the genetic material, composed of DNA molecules and proteins that fold it into a three-dimensional structure.קרא עוד >

A statistical measure that describes the relationship between two variables, i.e. to what extent a change in one variable will cause a change in the second one.קרא עוד >

The amount of particles of matter or energy (photons) passing through a unit of area. The density of an electric current refers to the size of the electric charge passing through a unit of area per unit of time.Current density is measured in amperes/m2.קרא עוד >

A macromolecule responsible for the development and function of living cells and constitutes the genetic material. This large molecule, found in the body cells of all living organisms, is composed of building-blocks named nucleic acids, and consists of two strands coiled around each other, forming a double helix.קרא עוד >

A branch of medicine dealing with skin disorders.קרא עוד >

An electric current, ie the unidirectional flow or movement of electric charge carriers (electrons or ions, or both), which flow uniformly, from the negative pole of an electrical power source (eg a battery) via an electric circuit to its positive pole, or vice versa (positive pole to the negative pole). When the electrical power poles are fixed, the positive pole is always positive, and the negative pole is always negative. Therefore, the direction of the electric current does not change.קרא עוד >

A process whereby impurities are intentionally introduced into a semiconductor for the purpose of increasing its electrical conductivity (a semiconductor is a solid material that has intermediate electrical conductivity – between an insulator and a conductor).קרא עוד >

Situation where the risk increases with the level of exposure. A dose-response relationship supports causality, but the lack of this relationship does not necessarily rule out a causal relationship.קרא עוד >

Assessment of the amount of electromagnetic field absorbed by the body of a human or other animal (or any live component, such as an organ, tissue, cell, etc.), expressed in clearly measurable effects. The amount may be determined by measurement or calculation of the internal electric field intensity, the density of the induced current, the level of density and intensity absorbed by the body, such as by induced currents, heating of tissues, etc.קרא עוד >

A phenomenon whereby individuals report a number of symptoms which they claim are due to exposure to various man-made sources of electromagnetic radiation. According to current scientific knowledge, no causal relationship between exposure to electromagnetic radiation and the reported symptoms has been established.קרא עוד >

A phenomenon occurring in space where an electric charge exists and in which a difference in electric tension occurs.  In fact, any charged body creates an electric field around itself, that affects (exercises power over) any other charged body in its vicinity.  For example: If an object is charged by a static electric charger, it will attract hair, dust, floating particles, etc.  The electric field is measured in units of volts per meter (V/m).קרא עוד >

A combination of electric and magnetic fields spreading through space in waves with distinct physical characteristicsקרא עוד >

The energy of magnetic electrical activity spreading in waves in a vacuum or through matter.קרא עוד >

A continuous scale of frequencies (or wavelengths) describing different types of electromagnetic radiation.  It ranges from the lowest frequency (corresponding to the longest wavelength) and to the highest frequency (corresponding to the shortest wavelength).  The scale is divided into segments of different frequencies according to their actual usage, their physical features, and their possible health effects.קרא עוד >

Negatively-charged basic particle in the atom.קרא עוד >

A segment of the electromagnetic spectrum. ELF includes frequencies in the range 30-300 Hz (particularly high wavelengths, from 1000 to 10000 km, respectively).  Frequencies of the electric power grid are generally 50 or 60 Hz.  Examples of ELF electromagnetic fields: electric power lines, transformers, electric chargers, etc.)קרא עוד >

The ability of a system to perform work. Energy is one of the basic characteristics of any system.  Energy may be converted from one form to another, e.g., mechanical to electrical energy.קרא עוד >

Any exposure to electromagnetic radiation that is not occupational or medical.קרא עוד >

A derivative of the general exposure threshold, aimed at protecting the environment and humans in public areas against the harmful effects of a chemical or physical agent. In certain cases the purpose of this threshold is to minimize exposure before irreversible damage is caused.קרא עוד >

The addition of a discrete amount of energy (called excitation energy) to an atom or a molecule that results in its alteration, ordinarily from the condition of lowest energy (ground state) to one of higher energy (excited state). Excitation may result from absorption of a photon or from collision with energetic electrons. The life span of an excited electron is usually very short; when the electron returns to its ground state or to a state of lower energy, energy is released.   קרא עוד >
